Position Title: Education Specialist
Reports to: Transgender Services Manager
Status: Part Time, Hourly, 16-20 hours/week, $15/hour
Start Date: Immediately

For the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Education Specialist will work a hybrid of remote and in-person hours.

SUMMARY:

The Education Specialist will implement OUTMemphis’s educational programming over four main projects. With the guidance of supervisors and partners, this position will support the cultivation of both curricula and partnerships. The Education Specialist will facilitate learning and development for youth, families, and adults around LGBTQ+ issues, social support, life skills, and mentorship. The Education Specialist works within the umbrella of the Transgender Services program but collaborates with the Metamorphosis Project – OUTMemphis’s Youth Housing program – in addition to the entire team.  The Education Specialist should be eager to learn new skills, committed and knowledgeable to trans and/or LGBTQ+ movements, and a practiced facilitator and discussion-leader with diverse age ranges. The Education Specialist must be particularly prepared to educate on trans issues in diverse settings.

DUTIES:

  • Manage the Lifehacks program, OUTMemphis’s ongoing workshop and mentorship series for youth 18-24 seeking life skills, career readiness, and education guidance. Lifehacks includes both virtual and in-person programming.
  • Conduct OUTMemphis’s Cultural Humility Trainings for outside agencies and companies. This includes coordinating, scheduling, and providing pre- and post-surveys to training recipients. Trainings and workshops are conducted for both adults and youth.
  • Act as point of contact for local, regional, and national youth-serving organizations and provide updates to the OUTMemphis staff leadership.
  • Manage PRYSM, OUTMemphis’s youth group for LGBTQ+ 13-17-year-olds, and We Are Family, OUTMemphis’s social group for queer families with kids 12 & under. Includes guiding and supervising volunteer facilitators.
