Position Title: Volunteer Coordinator
Reports to: Director of Community Services
Wage & Classification: Minimum $15/hr, based on experience. Available for part-time or full-time. or
Part-Time, Hourly, 20-25 hours/week, $18 hour (with potential for full time 40 hours/week)
Start Date: Immediately
The Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for the recruitment, scheduling, and retention of OUTMemphis’s volunteers and interns. This position will coordinate the placement and training of all volunteer roles at the Community Center, Youth Emergency Center, and Donation Center. The Volunteer Coordinator will also oversee volunteer participants for all of OUTMemphis’s internal and external outreach needs, including but not limited to assisting with the front desk, program support, community engagement and tabling, special events during the year, and advocacy opportunities. The Volunteer Coordinator serves as a primary point of contact for partnerships that provide and utilize our volunteer efforts. that will collaborate with OUTMemphis to provide resources to the community. The Volunteer Coordinator services as the key connection between the OUTMemphis staff and our volunteers, with their diversity of backgrounds and skillsets.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
–Develop and implement recruitment and retention processes for OUTMemphis’s volunteer and intern program
–Lead volunteer corps in cultivating a friendly and inviting atmosphere for all guests entering the Center
–Ensure coverage of essential volunteer needs
–Ensure training and onboarding of volunteers who will be ready to engage in the dynamic work of the Center
–Develop and implement training program manuals and materials
–Actively maintain the Center’s volunteer program by keeping records of volunteers and their hours
–Serve as the communication hub for all volunteer activities and oversee lead volunteers as OUTMemphis’s staff point person
–Work with the Director of Community Services to compile volunteer data and reports
–Work with dedicated staff members to maintain and promote OUTMemphis’s website page for volunteers
–Coordinate volunteer recognition by spotlighting individuals, creating social events, and celebrating the year’s worth of volunteer work at an annual gathering
–Participate in all-staff duties such as shifts at each facility and attending organizational events. Position includes evening and weekend hours.
–Preferred professional, volunteer, or background in event planning
–Minimum Associate’s degree or equivalent field experience.
–Good verbal and written communication skills, including strong organizational, detail, and interpersonal skills;
–Excellent computer skills including word processing, database operations, spreadsheets, and other software systems; experience with data entry preferred.
–Conversational Spanish is preferred but not required.
–Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds including age, gender, sexual orientation, education, and ethnicity, in a multicultural environment.
–Knowledgeable and sensitive to the issues affecting gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, asexual, intersex, and questioning youth and adults.
–Knowledgeable about black and brown queer and trans issues in the Mid-South, including HIV, homelessness, over-incarceration, sex work, family conflict, and other experiences.
–Must be able to collaborate and work with diverse constituencies in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. Must have strong customer service instincts and de-escalation skills.
