Position Title: Trans Services Specialist
Reports to: Trans Services Manager
Wage & Classification: Minimum $15/hr, based on experience, plus funded professional development opportunities. Available for part-time for 20 hours per week
Start Date: Immediately
SUMMARY:
The Trans Services Specialist will provide support to our Trans Programming by aiding in outreach, helping to plan events, co-facilitating applicable groups, and providing additional help to enhance and grow our programming. The Trans Services Specialist will work out of the Community Center and collaborate with the Youth Emergency Center and Donation Center to provide programs and services to the trans community. The Trans Services Specialist serves as a point of contact for partnerships that enhance our trans services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
–Assist in the development and facilitation of a transgender advisory committee
–Implement and facilitate a transgender support group
–Assist in updating our Trans Best of Memphis Resource Guide
–Attend two outreach events per month (one related to sexual health and the other specific to the transgender community)
–Complete I Know Training to be a trained HIV tester and provide support for testing hours as needed
-Assist in the distribution of the OUTLast financial assistance program with supervision from the Trans Services Manager
–Assist in community outreach and navigation for PrEP/PEP
CORE COMPETENCIES:
–Good verbal and written communication skills; organizational skills to adhere to program deadlines
– Basic computer skills including utilizing social media platforms
–Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds including age, gender, sexual orientation, education, and ethnicity, in a multicultural environment.
–Knowledgeable and sensitive to the issues affecting gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, asexual, intersex, and questioning youth and adults.
–Knowledgeable about black and brown queer and trans issues in the Mid-South, including HIV, homelessness, over-incarceration, sex work, family conflict, and other experiences.
–Must be able to collaborate and work with diverse community members
-Provide consistency and accountability in a team-driven work environment
