Pronouns: He/Him/His
Neal is the Deputy Director for OUTMemphis. He is from Louisville, MS, but has lived in several different states as well as internationally. Neal is a licensed mental health professional and considers it an honor to hold space to hear people’s lived experiences. His work at OUTMemphis includes managing volunteers, Senior Services, supervising peer groups, health, and trans services/programs.
Neal comes to OUTMemphis with over 15 years of education, administrative, social justice advocacy, and entrepreneurial work experience. Neal came to OUTMemphis after working for five years in the HIV/AIDS healthcare field as well as doing advocacy work for the LGBTQIA+ community. Neal is excited about being in this new role to collaborate with community members and participants of OUTMemphis. “I am thrilled to work for an organization that takes pride in truly listening and responding to the needs of the LGBTQIA+ community. I am also honored to work with a talented team of professionals in this leadership role to strengthen our programs and services as well as our existing relationships with the community partnerships.” Neal was drawn to work for OUTMemphis because of the synergy he felt in the organization’s work of helping our community navigate socioeconomic disparity, health barriers, gender bias, and decreasing barriers to access services for disenfranchised individuals. “It is important for all of us to feel safe, validated, and accepted. Empathy and unconditional love can be a strong foundation for change in society, if we dare to step outside of our comfort zone to challenge our own preconceived notions and ideas.” Neal looks forward to continuing the work that this team has done to expand and enhance our affirming community alliances.
