ENGLISH:
Join us for weekend of events that highlight our LGBTQ+ Latinx community during Hispanic Heritage Month. Latinx Awareness Weekend strives to provide events that give a sense of nostalgia and familiarity to our LGBTQ+ Latinx community, while exposing non-Latinx individuals to the beauty and diversity that exists within Latinx Culture & Community. We seek to not only bring awareness to this culture, but also the issues that this culture faces being LGBTQ+ and Latinx. With this weekend, we hope to provide visibility within our city and let it be known that the Latinx LGBTQ+ community does have a presence and a voice. We want our LGBTQ+ Latinx community to feel loved, celebrated, acknowledge and respected. So please come out and show support!

Friday, October 11:

Join GenQ from 7:00p-9:00p as we play a game of Queer Loteria, a traditional Latinx game that is a mix between bingo and the lottery. GenQ is generally for those 18-25, but anyone is welcome to this event. However, those over 25 will be asked to sign a Youth Interaction Form.

Saturday, October 12:

PRYSM, our youth group for 13-17 year-olds, will be watching the Disney film Coco and discussing the Latinx influences and culture in the film. They will also be engaging in some arts and crafts related to Latinx heritage. This event is restricted to 13-17 year-olds.

Sunday, October 13:

We invite the entire community to join us at 892 S Cooper St from 4:00p-6:00p as we build and decorate our “Dia De Los Muertos” ofrenda, or altar. This practice is deeply rooted in Latinx heritage as a way to honor loved ones who have passed. We will be decorating our altar with colorful decorations and sugar skulls, and we invite you to bring images or photos of loved ones who have passed to be displayed on the ofrenda. This altar will remain in place at the Community Center until after Dia De Los Muertos.
