This role is open to both Manager and Director level candidates, and the final position will be based upon experience, qualifications, and budget restrictions.

Director-level positions carry a salary range of $60,000 - $75,000.

Manager-level positions carry a salary range of $40,000 - $55,000.

SUMMARY

The Programs and Engagement Manager or Director coordinates and supports the planning and delivery of OUTMemphis's community-based programs, working collaboratively with program directors and staff across housing, social services, food and hygiene, community health, and advocacy and education. This position ensures seamless collaboration across program areas, aligns services with OUTMemphis's mission, and provides direct oversight of OUTMemphis's 800+ volunteer program. This position ensures that all OUTMemphis programs operate effectively, meet community member needs, provide equitable pathways to engage with the organization, and are aligned with the OUTMemphis mission.


DIRECTOR ROLE

This role would additionally provide strategic leadership and vision for OUTMemphis’s supportive programs and volunteer initiatives. The Programs and Engagement Director guides program development, evaluation, and partnerships to maximize community impact, resource, and coalition building. The Programs and Engagement Director builds collaborative systems within our local and statewide network that strengthen service delivery, expand volunteer engagement, and advance the organization's mission of meeting the needs of LGBTQ+ Memphians.


DUTIES

  • In collaboration with the senior leadership team, ensure administration of high-quality and care-centered programs and services that are tailored to meet the specific needs of our local LGBTQ+ community, and are being administered in line with the OUTMemphis’s vision and mission.

  • In collaboration with Operations staff, ensure effective standards and routines are upheld in all community spaces, including scheduling, safety, and other policies to ensure a welcoming, accessible environment that drives engagement in our services.

  • Support the Senior Staff in community engagement strategies, including partnership building, outreach and event strategies, and volunteer programming.

  • Manage and maintain the external volunteer program, inclusive of managing the volunteer portal, conducting orientations, creating services opportunities, program evaluation, volunteer recruitment, appreciation and retention strategies.

  • Support budget development and monitoring for programs and volunteer engagement, ensuring responsible stewardship of resources and alignment with programmatic goals, inclusive of tracking program expenses and volunteer-related costs, and collaborating with finance/operations to manage budgets effectively.

  • Identify resource needs for programs (supplies, equipment, space, staffing) and advocate for adequate budget allocation, and explore and enhance opportunities to enhance budgets for programs and service capacity

  • Ensure robust communication between Senior Staff team and programs staff members, including program plans and projects and pertinent organizational information.

  • Manage 2-5 full- or part-time programs and frontline staff members inclusive of all supervisory duties.


As Director

  • Support the Chief Programs Officer in identifying goals and seeing through execution of OUTMemphis’s comprehensive programs and services for the LGBTQ+ community, by setting objectives, monitoring progress, and leading a team of 15+ programs staff members.

  • Develop and implement annual program plans and timelines in collaboration with program directors, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and community needs.

  • Facilitate collection of monthly, quarterly, and annual program reports.

  • Lead weekly, monthly, and quarterly program reviews to assess effectiveness, identify challenges, and recommend strategic adjustments to programming.

  • Identify gaps in service delivery and develop new program initiatives to meet emerging community needs.

  • Coordinate advocacy and civic engagement strategic projects in line with key volunteers, Board members, coalition partners, and C-Suite team.


CORE COMPENTECIES

  • A minimum 3 (Manager) or 5 (Director) years of experience working in nonprofit or community programs related fields. Master’s degree or equivalent field experience in any related field preferred.

  • Great verbal and written communication skills, including strong organizational, detail and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience recruiting, training, and retaining volunteers, especially in a grassroots or LGBTQ+ community context

  • Hands-on ability to guide programs from concept to implementation, including logistics and staffing

  • Experience recruiting, training, and retaining volunteers, especially in a grassroots or LGBTQ+ community context.

  • Familiarity with budgeting, resource allocation, and maximizing impact with limited funds.

  • Excellent computer skills including word processing, database operations, spreadsheets, and other software systems; experience with data entry preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds including age, gender, sexual orientation, education, and ethnicity, in a multicultural environment.

  • Knowledgeable and sensitive to the issues affecting gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, asexual, intersex, and questioning youth and adults. Specific knowledge about black and brown queer and trans issues in the Mid-South, including HIV, homelessness, overincarceration, sex work, family conflict, and other experiences preferred.

  • Must be able to collaborate and work with diverse constituencies in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

  • Must have strong customer service instincts, de-escalation skills, and knowledgeable care services for marginalized communities.
