It is named in honor of Meristem Bookstore, Memphis' first feminist/LGBTQ bookstore which operated at 930 South Cooper from 1990 to 1998. Audrey May was the co-owner and manager and now leads these book club events. Amazingly, the book club has met almost every month since 2010! The term "Meristem" is a botanical term, referring to the stem cells of plants. They are basically the points of new growth.
