MONDAY 10/7

HIV Testing

6:00p-9:00p:

Knowing your status is the first step in reclaiming your sexual health, which is why OUTMemphis offers free HIV testing every Monday and Wednesday evening from 6:00p-9:00p, no appointment needed!

The test is free, quick, and confidential. The test takes around 20 minutes and includes a confidential sexual health counseling session with one of our highly trained testing staff.

Perpetual Transition

Perpetual Transition is our core Transgender Services peer-led community group, meeting continuously since 2005. PT is a safe and welcoming space for transgender folks of any flavor, identity, expression, or gender to meet and socialize with other like-minded individuals.

PT is open to anyone who identifies as transgender or is questioning, and is a safe and confidential space to ask questions, meet other people, and form bonds with the Memphis transgender community.

OUTFlix 2019

Schedule Varies:

OUTFlix Film Festival is the LGBTQ+ Film Festival of the Mid-South, and it starts SOON!

OUTFlix 2019 will run from Friday, October 4 to Thursday, October 10 at Studio on the Square in Midtown (2105 Court Ave, Memphis, TN 38104)

This series of films will be the 22nd annual LGBTQ+ Film Festival put on by OUTMemphis, and we’d love for you to be able to experience this intentional LGBTQ+ representation on the big screen.  Over 400 films were submitted this year, and our OUTFlix screening committee has watched and rated them all to make sure that only the best, most representative films make it to the public. 

This year, we will have a series of 19 films and shorts blocks over the course of the week available for viewing, including a Seniors shorts block, focused nights like Trans and Latinx, and a number of panels, discussion, and speakers. You won’t want to miss these chances.

Trans ID Workshop

7:45p-8:45p:

The Trans ID Workshop is designed to help transgender individuals navigate the legal documentation and processes of transitioning, including name change, gender markers, and other such paperwork. Where applicable, blank documents and applications will be provided as part of the workshop. See the web page for Frequently Asked Questions.

This workshop is open to any community members, so if you’d like to attend, please email Tasha Mack, Transgender Services Specialist.

TUESDAY 10/8

Volunteer Orientation

5:00p-6:00p:

This is a training to familiarize new volunteers with the organization, and to allow them to ask questions. All new volunteers for OUTMemphis must attend this training before working shifts. These trainings occur the second and fourth Tuesday evening of the month. These trainings are RSVP only.

STI Testing

6:00p-9:00p:

Starting on September 11th, CHOICES will begin sending staff members to OUTMemphis every Wednesday evening during our regularly scheduled HIV testing hours (6:00p-9:00p) to offer syphilisgonorrhea, and chlamydia tests, free of charge.

OUTMemphis is proud to collaborate with our partner organization CHOICES: Memphis Center for Reproductive Health. Thanks to a grant from Campaign for Southern EqualityOUTMemphis and CHOICES are able to come together for the first time to provide a pilot program that will allow more LGBTQ and Allied folks in the Mid-South to have access to free STI testing beyond HIV.

Meristem Book Club

7:00p-9:00p:

The Meristem Book Club is named after the feminist/LGBTQ bookstore that existed down the street from OUTMemphis on Cooper between 1990-1998.

Meristem cells are the point of new growth in some plants – similar to stem cells in humans. Meristem is named after the bookstore to honor our past and to foster hope for our future.

Each month, Meristem reads and explores a different written work by women, LGBTQ, and feminist authors and to foster a community of support with like-minded women.

Meristem is open to lesbian, bi/pansexual, trans, and allied women of all gender identities and expressions.

Seeking Serenity

Seeking Serenity is a peer-led community support group for LGBTQ friends and family of people in recovery for alcohol.

Seeking Serenity provides a weekly session for LGBTQ community members who support are associated with problem drinkers to convene for community, discussion, and social support from like-minded people in similar situations. While allies are welcome, Seeking Serenity is centered and gives precedent to the lives and experience of LGBTQ people.

FRIDAY 10/11

Delta Trans Masculine

5:30p-6:30p:

Delta Trans Masculine is a peer-led community social group for trans and gender non-conforming folks who identify more on the masculine side of the spectrum. This is a safe place for transmasculine folks to be authentically themselves around like-minded people who share similar identities. This group is open to friends, family, partners, spouses, and supportive allies as well.

Queer Loteria Night (Latinx Awareness Weekend 2019)

7:00p-9:00p:

Join us for weekend of events that highlight our LGBTQ+ Latinx community during Hispanic Heritage Month. Latinx Awareness Weekend strives to provide events that give a sense of nostalgia and familiarity to our LGBTQ+ Latinx community, while exposing non-Latinx individuals to the beauty and diversity that exists within Latinx Culture & Community. We seek to not only bring awareness to this culture, but also the issues that this culture faces being LGBTQ+ and Latinx. With this weekend, we hope to provide visibility within our city and let it be known that the Latinx LGBTQ+ community does have a presence and a voice. We want our LGBTQ+ Latinx community to feel loved, celebrated, acknowledge and respected. So please come out and show support!

Join GenQ from 7:00p-9:00p as we play a game of Queer Loteria, a traditional Latinx game that is a mix between bingo and the lottery. GenQ is generally for those 18-25, but anyone is welcome to this event. However, those over 25 will be asked to sign a Youth Interaction Form.

SATURDAY 10/12

Movie and Discussion Night with PRYSM (Latinx Awareness Weekend)

PRYSM, our youth group for 13-17 year-olds, will be watching the Disney film Coco and discussing the Latinx influences and culture in the film. They will also be engaging in some arts and crafts related to Latinx heritage. This event is restricted to 13-17 year-olds.

SUNDAY 10/13

Seniors OUT For Coffee

Seniors OUT For Coffee is a community social group for LBTQ community members 55 years-of-age or older.  The group meets over coffee and light snacks for conversation and fellowship with like-minded people.

Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) Altar Building (Latinx Awareness Weekend)

We invite the entire community to join us at 892 S Cooper St from 4:00p-6:00p as we build and decorate our “Dia De Los Muertos” ofrenda, or altar. This practice is deeply rooted in Latinx heritage as a way to honor loved ones who have passed. We will be decorating our altar with colorful decorations and sugar skulls, and we invite you to bring images or photos of loved ones who have passed to be displayed on the ofrenda. This altar will remain in place at the Community Center until after Dia De Los Muertos.

MONDAY 10/14

Colorcopia: Art Class for Seniors

Colorcopia is an art class put on by artists from the Dixon Gallery and Gardens. Participants will learn how to recreate a piece of art in the Dixon’s collection, gaining new artistic skills in the process.
