Trans Week of Awareness 2025: A Powerful Week of Community and Celebration

This year’s Trans Week of Awareness brought our community together for a series of uplifting events centered on visibility, connection, and trans joy. From opening the week with a game night to resource-sharing and community gatherings, each space reflected our commitment to supporting and celebrating one another.

We kicked off the week and ended the week at the OUTMemphis Community Center (OCC) starting with Game Night were many of our movers and shakers of the trans community came for an evening of camaraderie. Following, OUTMemphis staff attended the 7th Annual Legacy Awards with WeCareTN. Where one of our own Christian Mays was honored as this year’s Man About Change Award for his fabulous work with OUTMemphis. Ending the week back at the OCC with Transgender Day of Remembrance hosted by My Sistah’s House leading a powerful vigil.

Our signature event, the “I AM” Trans Storytelling program, was the heart of the week. We gathered local and regional community members to share powerful stories of identity, resilience, joy, and transformation. Leading conversations we heard from Dr. Bowers with a sound cleansing, Lamyah Mason and Tyla Sanders with powerful lived experiences, and Leading with Love from Love LaTonia. The room was full of love, vulnerability, and solidarity as we honored the voices that shape our community.

As the week wrapped up, we were reminded that our stories matter, our presence matters, and our community is stronger together. Special thanks to our partners, including My Sistah’s House and WeCareTN, for helping make this event such a meaningful success. Trans Week of Awareness is more than a moment—it’s a celebration of who we are and the futures we’re building.
